PM Modi Urges Indian Diaspora to Champion Tourism While Calling for Economic Prudence Amid Global Challenges

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited the Indian diaspora to become active ambassadors for India's tourism sector by encouraging at least five foreign families each to visit the country. This appeal forms part of a broader message emphasising national responsibility during a period of global economic uncertainty.

Speaking at a public event in Vadodara, Gujarat, on May 11-12, the Prime Minister highlighted the potential of iconic landmarks like the Statue of Unity to attract international visitors and showcase India's rich heritage.

Diaspora as Bridges for 'Incredible India'

In his address, PM Modi reminded overseas Indians of their influential role in connecting India with the world. He encouraged them to motivate friends and acquaintances abroad to experience the country's beauty and culture firsthand.

“There are a lot of us living overseas. It is your responsibility to bring at least five foreign families to visit India. Encourage families you are connected with to visit the Statue of Unity. Motivate them for at least one trip,” he said.

This initiative builds on India's ongoing efforts to position itself as a premier global tourism destination, leveraging its diverse landscapes, historical sites, and warm hospitality.

Promoting Domestic Weddings and Cultural Pride

The Prime Minister also encouraged citizens to celebrate important occasions, particularly weddings, within India. He suggested the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat, as a majestic and meaningful venue, noting its association with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

“In Gujarat, I would like to say that you should decide to hold your weddings at the Statue of Unity itself. At every single one of your weddings held there, Sardar Sahab himself will be present to shower you with his abundant blessings,” PM Modi remarked.

He urged families to explore India's many magnificent locations for vacations and events, fostering pride in the nation's history and supporting local economies. This approach aims to channel celebrations into domestic tourism, enriching cultural experiences while contributing to economic growth.

He also suggested postponing non-essential foreign travel and gold purchases for a period, while promoting local products and mindful consumption.
