Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded Slovakia’s highest state decoration, the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), during his landmark visit to the Central European nation. Slovak President Peter Pellegrini presented the honour in a special ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava on June 15, 2026. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Slovakia represents the first-ever trip by an Indian Prime Minister to the country since its independence in 1993. The two-day State visit, held from June 14 to 15, followed engagements in France and came at the invitation of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. The 1st Class represents the highest grade of this esteemed order.
In accepting the award, Prime Minister Modi dedicated it to the people of India. In a post on X, he expressed his gratitude, stating: “Honoured to receive The Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class) in Bratislava this evening. My gratitude to the people and Government of Slovakia for this honour, which belongs to the 140 crore people of India.
