Union Cabinet Honors Prime Minister Narendra Modi as India's Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

In a moment of historic significance for Indian democracy, the Union Cabinet on June 10, 2026, unanimously adopted a special resolution applauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister of the country. This milestone underscores the enduring public trust placed in his leadership and marks a notable chapter in the nation's governance journey.

By completing 4,399 consecutive days in office as an elected Prime Minister, PM Modi surpassed the previous record of 4,398 days held by Jawaharlal Nehru from 1952 to 1964. The achievement coincides with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government completing 12 years under his stewardship and PM Modi approaching 25 years of continuous service as head of government, first as Chief Minister of Gujarat and then as Prime Minister.

During the Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, ministers rose in a standing ovation to honor his dedication and contributions. The resolution, titled ‘Abhinandan Prastav’, described June 10 as a historic milestone reflecting India's democratic consciousness, public trust, and the power of people's participation in supporting a leader guided by the ‘Nation First’ principle.
