Slovak Ambassador to India, Robert Maxian, has enthusiastically described the upcoming visit as a “historic opportunity” and a “landmark moment” in India-Slovakia relations. In a video message addressed to the people of India, Ambassador Maxian extended a warm welcome: “Dear Fellow Citizens of India, We welcome our Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji. The Prime Minister’s visit to Slovakia is a historic opportunity in the relations between India and Slovakia. We hope that this visit of his will further strengthen the relations between India and Slovakia. Namaskar. Thank you. Jai Hind.”

He further characterized the visit as “historical, strategic, and symbolic,” noting that it will be the first in-person meeting between the Prime Ministers of the two countries. This sentiment highlights the evolution of ties since 2022, built on regular high-level engagements.

Building on Recent High-Level Momentum

The visit comes on the heels of important reciprocal engagements that have laid a strong foundation. These include President Droupadi Murmu’s state visit to Slovakia in April 2025 and Slovak President Peter Pellegrini’s trip to India for the AI Impact Summit in February 2026. Such interactions have steadily elevated the partnership, creating a conducive environment for deeper collaboration in multiple sectors.

He will also meet Slovak President Peter Pellegrini at the Presidential Palace, where a state banquet will be hosted in his honour. Defence ties form one of the strongest pillars of the relationship, spanning over three decades. Slovakia has long served as a reliable supplier of military hardware and technologies to India. Notably, joint projects in both public and private sectors are expanding, and Slovakia has begun procuring defence technologies from India, creating a more balanced and mutually beneficial dynamic. Bilateral trade has witnessed impressive growth in recent years, more than doubling in a short span. Key Indian exports to Slovakia include footwear, garments, tyres, motor vehicle parts, and pharmaceuticals, while imports primarily consist of machinery, engines, and vehicles.
