The upcoming nationwide drive draws inspiration from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) carried out in Bihar earlier this year. Bihar’s SIR involved meticulous door-to-door verification, aided by technological tools, and resulted in the identification and removal of a significant number of duplicate and ineligible voters. The success of this model has prompted the ECI to replicate it in five key states: Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. By leveraging proven strategies, the Commission aims to ensure that the voter lists in these states are as accurate as possible before upcoming elections.

Methodology and Technological Integration

The clean-up drive will combine traditional verification methods with advanced technology. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households to validate voter information, ensuring no eligible voter is overlooked while eliminating duplicates or inaccuracies. Biometric data and Aadhaar linkage will be used to enhance the precision of voter records, while online platforms and helplines will allow citizens to report discrepancies and participate actively in the process.
