Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Maharashtra on 8–9 October 2025 highlighted India’s commitment to modern infrastructure, urban mobility, and international collaboration. Over the two days, the Prime Minister inaugurated landmark projects, engaged with global leaders, and launched initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth and technological advancement.

Inauguration of Navi Mumbai International Airport
On 8 October, PM Modi inaugurated the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), a cutting-edge facility developed under a Public-Private Partnership model at an estimated cost of ₹19,650 crore. Spanning 1,160 hectares, the airport is designed to handle up to 90 million passengers and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo annually. Equipped with an Automated People Mover system, solar power generation of 47 MW, and electric bus services, NMIA will also feature India’s first water taxi connectivity, facilitating seamless multimodal transport options and setting a benchmark for sustainable airport infrastructure.
Completion of Mumbai Metro Line-3
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line-3, known as the Aqua Line. This underground corridor spans 33.5 km, linking Aarey to Cuffe Parade with 27 stations. The metro line is projected to serve 13 lakh commuters daily, providing direct access to business hubs, financial districts, and government offices. The integration of the metro with suburban railways and airport connections is expected to significantly enhance urban mobility and reduce travel time across the city.
Launch of the Mumbai One App
As part of efforts to improve public transport efficiency, PM Modi launched the ‘Mumbai One’ app, a unified platform integrating 11 public transport operators. The app offers features such as digital ticketing, real-time journey updates, multimodal route planning, and an SOS safety function. This initiative represents a key step towards creating a seamless, tech-enabled commuter experience across Mumbai.
Strengthening India-UK Relations
On 9 October, PM Modi hosted UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai. The leaders participated in the CEO Forum and attended the 6th Global Fintech Fest, emphasizing the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Discussions focused on trade, investment, technology, defence, climate, health, education, and people-to-people exchanges. Both leaders also explored opportunities under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), reinforcing bilateral economic and strategic cooperation.
Global Fintech Fest 2025
The Global Fintech Fest 2025, themed ‘Empowering Finance for a Better World,’ attracted over 100,000 participants from more than 75 countries. The conference highlighted innovations in AI, financial inclusion, and digital finance. Regulators from Singapore, Germany, France, and Switzerland participated, reflecting India’s growing role in shaping the global fintech ecosystem.
Launch of Short-Term Employability Program (STEP)
PM Modi also inaugurated the Short-Term Employability Program (STEP), designed to equip youth with industry-relevant skills. Covering 400 ITIs and 150 Technical High Schools, the initiative will create 2,500 new training batches, including programs for women and courses in emerging fields like AI, IoT, electric vehicles, solar energy, and additive manufacturing. STEP aims to bridge the skills gap and enhance employability among India’s young workforce.
The MGMM Outlook
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Maharashtra on 8–9 October 2025 reflects India’s determination to strengthen infrastructure and technological capacity while fostering global partnerships. The inauguration of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, a state-of-the-art facility with advanced multimodal transport, solar energy systems, and sustainable practices, signifies India’s commitment to world-class development. Similarly, the completion of Mumbai Metro Line-3 and the launch of the ‘Mumbai One’ app demonstrate the government’s focus on enhancing urban mobility and integrating technology into public services, improving daily life for millions of commuters.
