Opening of the Investment Meet

The event commenced with a high-level CEO roundtable at the Taj Palace in New Delhi. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the partnership between Uttar Pradesh and Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture as resting on a foundation of trust, technology, culture, investment and a shared vision. He noted that Uttar Pradesh now ranks among the country’s top three economies and offers significant potential for long-term industrial collaboration.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal outlined the broader India-Japan economic ambitions, referring to a target of 10 trillion yen in Japanese investment into India over the next decade, building on bilateral trade of approximately 27.5 billion dollars in the previous financial year. Priority areas identified for cooperation included artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, batteries, energy and next-generation mobility.

Major Projects in the YEIDA Region

Three industrial projects with a combined investment of ₹3,191 crore were announced in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority area and are expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs. Escorts Kubota, a joint venture between Escorts Limited and Japan’s Kubota Corporation, will invest around ₹2,025 crore in Sector-10 of YEIDA for the manufacture of tractors, construction equipment and related products for domestic and export markets. In its first phase the plant is planned to have an annual capacity of 60,000 tractors and 15,000 construction equipment units and is expected to create more than 3,800 direct jobs. The project is being developed under the state’s FDI Policy 2023 and is estimated to have a gross state value added impact of over ₹7,756 crore.

Minda Corporation will establish two projects in Sectors 10 and 24 involving a total investment of approximately ₹1,166 crore. These facilities will produce ignition switch-cum-steering locks, mechatronic components, wiring harnesses and related connection systems and are expected to generate around 6,440 jobs. A virtual ground-breaking ceremony for the Escorts Kubota and Minda projects was held during the meet.

Japan City Proposal and Wider Investment Focus

The state government has proposed a dedicated 500-acre Japan City in the YEIDA region near Greater Noida. The integrated industrial cluster is intended to accommodate Japanese companies along with their suppliers and ancillary industries, facilitating technology transfer and supply-chain integration.

Discussions also covered investment opportunities in green hydrogen, renewable energy, clean technology, electronics, semiconductors, data centres, digital infrastructure and electric mobility. The Chief Minister highlighted the availability of more than 75,000 acres of dedicated industrial land, multiple sectoral policies and a large young workforce that the state aims to connect with Japanese manufacturing practices such as continuous improvement methods and precision engineering.

The MGMM Outlook

Uttar Pradesh is increasingly positioning itself as a major destination for Japanese investment, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inviting Japanese companies to make the state their “second industrial home.” The UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 has brought together more than 200 Japanese industrialists, business leaders and policymakers, with major projects worth ₹3,191 crore announced in the YEIDA region. Investments by Escorts Kubota and Minda Corporation are expected to create more than 10,000 jobs, strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s manufacturing ecosystem and deepening India-Japan economic cooperation.

The proposed 500-acre Japan City near Greater Noida could further strengthen this partnership by bringing Japanese companies, suppliers and ancillary industries together in an integrated industrial cluster. With opportunities expanding across semiconductors, electronics, clean energy, electric mobility, data centres and advanced manufacturing, Uttar Pradesh is seeking to combine its large workforce, industrial infrastructure and sector-specific policies with Japanese technology and manufacturing expertise. These developments indicate that the state is moving beyond attracting individual investments towards building a broader, long-term industrial partnership with Japan, potentially creating new employment opportunities while strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s role in India’s manufacturing growth.
