Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Felicitates Over 1.43 Lakh Shiksha Mitras, Highlights Welfare Measures and Collaborative Spirit

In a significant event held on May 5, 2026, at the Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath felicitated thousands of Shiksha Mitras (para-teachers) who play a vital role in strengthening the foundation of primary education across Uttar Pradesh. The grand Shiksha Mitra Samman Samaroh celebrated the contributions of these educators while marking the implementation of enhanced service conditions, including a substantial increase in their monthly honorarium.

The programme reflected the state government’s ongoing commitment to recognising and supporting the teaching workforce at the grassroots level.

Enhanced Honorarium and Welfare Initiatives

The Uttar Pradesh government has raised the monthly honorarium of Shiksha Mitras from ₹10,000 to ₹18,000, an 80 per cent increase that became effective from April 1, 2026. This revision benefits approximately 1.43 lakh para-teachers working in state-run primary schools under the Basic Education Council. Along with the higher pay, the government has introduced cashless medical treatment coverage of up to ₹5 lakh for the teachers and their dependent family members.

During the event, the Chief Minister handed over symbolic cheques representing the revised honorarium to selected Shiksha Mitras, underscoring the tangible impact of these measures on their lives and dignity. Many teachers expressed a renewed sense of motivation and appreciation for the recognition of their long-standing service.

This marks the second major upward revision in their honorarium under the current administration, following an earlier increase from ₹3,500 to ₹10,000 in 2017.

Chief Minister’s Call for Constructive Engagement

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath encouraged Shiksha Mitras to adopt a positive and constructive approach while addressing their concerns. He emphasised the importance of dialogue and collaboration over confrontational methods, noting that teachers shape the future of society and must therefore maintain an optimistic outlook.

“A teacher associated with education must have a positive outlook. If not, it can cause irreparable damage to society. The future of children entrusted to you by parents depends on your attitude,” he remarked. He further highlighted that the nation’s interests should remain paramount, fostering a spirit of partnership for the greater good.

The Chief Minister’s message reinforced the value of working together to build a robust education system that serves the aspirations of every child.

Progress in Uttar Pradesh’s Education Landscape

The felicitation event also served as a platform to highlight advancements in the state’s basic education sector. Basic infrastructure in schools — including drinking water facilities, toilets, boundary walls, and enhanced security — has seen considerable improvement. These developments have contributed to higher enrolment rates, particularly among girls.

The state now provides free uniforms, school bags, textbooks, shoes, socks, and sweaters to around 1.6 crore children annually. Initiatives such as the expansion of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), with classes extended up to XII and plans for new residential schools in underserved blocks, reflect a focused effort on inclusive education. Emphasis has also been placed on digital learning tools and overall quality enhancement in classrooms.

The School Chalo Abhiyan, launched for the 2026-27 academic session, has already shown encouraging results, with significant enrolment drives aiming for universal access and zero dropouts for children aged 6 to 14. The Chief Minister appealed to parents, teachers, and communities to join hands in ensuring every child receives quality education, describing dropouts as a loss not just for families but for the nation.

Shiksha Mitras, introduced nearly two decades ago to bridge teacher shortages in primary schools, continue to form an essential part of the education delivery mechanism.
