Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised the importance of maintaining smooth public movement and traffic flow by discouraging the practice of offering namaz on roads and intersections. Speaking at the Amar Ujala Samvad programme in Lucknow on May 18, the Chief Minister clarified that prayers would continue without hindrance, but they must not obstruct public spaces or inconvenience citizens.

To address concerns regarding large congregations and limited space in mosques, the Chief Minister suggested organising prayers in shifts. “You have to offer namaz; you can read it during your shift. We will convince you with love, and if that does not work, another method will be adopted,” he said. He highlighted that this approach has already led to a noticeable change in Uttar Pradesh, where roadside namaz is no longer observed.
