Assam Cabinet Adopts 75 Resolutions Recognising PM Modi’s Contribution to State Development
The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, adopted 75 resolutions on October 9, 2026, expressing appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service. The resolutions highlighted developments in Assam and the Northeast across infrastructure, connectivity, peace and security, healthcare, education, poverty reduction and women’s empowerment.
The special 90-minute Cabinet meeting reflected on the transformation of Assam during a period of significant infrastructure expansion and increased emphasis on regional development. Addressing the media after the meeting, Sarma highlighted the importance of peace, improved connectivity and investment in creating new opportunities for the people of the state.
The resolutions also recognised the broader vision of building a developed India by 2047, with Assam playing an important role in strengthening the economic and strategic significance of the Northeast.

Infrastructure and Connectivity Drive Regional Growth
Infrastructure development has emerged as a major focus of Assam’s growth strategy, with investments in highways, bridges, railways, healthcare facilities and energy projects aimed at improving connectivity and public services. Better transport networks can reduce travel time, facilitate trade and strengthen links between remote communities and major economic centres.
In March 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced and launched development initiatives worth more than ₹47,600 crore in Assam. These included projects related to road infrastructure, energy and regional connectivity. The proposed Shillong–Silchar Corridor is among the important initiatives intended to improve connectivity between Assam and Meghalaya.
Earlier, in September 2025, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth more than ₹18,530 crore in Assam, including the Guwahati Ring Road project, the Kuruwa–Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra and the Darrang Medical College and Hospital.
These initiatives are expected to support economic activity, improve access to essential services and strengthen Assam’s position as a gateway to the Northeast. Continued investment in infrastructure will be important for attracting businesses, expanding tourism and creating employment opportunities.
Economic Development and Social Welfare
The Cabinet’s resolutions also highlighted poverty reduction, access to essential services and efforts to improve living standards. Central government programmes covering housing, sanitation, financial inclusion, food security and healthcare have sought to extend support to eligible households and improve access to basic necessities.
Women’s empowerment was another important theme, with an emphasis on women-led development. Greater access to financial services, entrepreneurship opportunities and welfare programmes can help women participate more actively in economic growth and community development.
The Cabinet also acknowledged the contribution of workers, artisans, street vendors and small entrepreneurs. Their role in supporting local economies makes it important to expand opportunities for self-employment, skill development and financial security.
For Assam, the next phase of development will depend on translating investment into sustainable employment, strengthening local industries and ensuring that the benefits of economic growth reach communities across both urban and rural areas.
Healthcare, Education and Improved Quality of Life
Healthcare and education remain essential pillars of Assam’s long-term development. The expansion of medical institutions, better access to affordable medicines and improved healthcare infrastructure can help strengthen public health outcomes, particularly in areas where access to specialised treatment remains limited.
National initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana and the Swachh Bharat Mission have focused on healthcare access, affordable medicines and sanitation. Alongside these programmes, investments in educational institutions and skill development can help prepare young people for emerging employment opportunities.
The Darrang Medical College and Hospital project is one example of infrastructure development aimed at strengthening medical education and healthcare delivery in Assam. Continued attention to staffing, facilities and service quality will be important to ensure that such investments deliver lasting benefits.
By recognising healthcare, education and sanitation alongside infrastructure and industrial development, the Cabinet highlighted the importance of improving both economic opportunities and everyday living conditions.
Peace and Security Strengthen Assam’s Development Prospects
Peace and security have an important role in creating an environment conducive to investment, tourism and economic activity. For Assam and the wider Northeast, greater stability and improved connectivity can help communities access markets, public services and employment opportunities.
Assam’s geographical position makes it a significant link between the rest of India and the northeastern states. Its infrastructure also supports the movement of goods and people across the region, contributing to broader national connectivity objectives.
The state’s continued progress will depend on sustaining peace, improving public services and ensuring that development initiatives reach areas with different economic and geographical needs. Cooperation between the Centre and the state remains important in advancing these priorities.
The MGMM Outlook
The Assam Cabinet’s adoption of 75 resolutions recognising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service highlights the state’s development journey across infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, peace and social welfare. Investments in roads, bridges, medical institutions and energy projects reflect the importance of strengthening Assam’s infrastructure and expanding opportunities across the Northeast. These initiatives also support the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, with Assam playing a significant role in regional connectivity and economic growth.
Sustained cooperation between the Central and Assam governments, combined with continued investment in public services, women’s empowerment, skill development and employment generation, can further strengthen the state’s progress. As Assam advances towards its development goals, effective implementation of these initiatives will be essential to ensure that the benefits reach communities across rural and urban areas, creating a stronger foundation for inclusive growth and a more prosperous future for the Northeast.
