In mid-June 2026, the Akal Takht convened a panel that reviewed forensic analyses from recognised laboratories. The panel concluded that the video was authentic, untampered, and not AI-generated. Acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj subsequently declared Mann as “Guru Dokhi” (anti-Guru) and “Khalsa Panth Virodhi” (opposed to the Khalsa Panth), urging the Sikh community to avoid association with him.

Mann has firmly rejected these claims, describing the video as false propaganda designed to defame him. He maintained that the individual shown is an actor who bears a resemblance to him and asserted that detailed forensic examination of over 1,191 frames found no match. The Chief Minister directed the state’s Director General of Police to investigate the matter thoroughly and apprehend those responsible. AAP leaders released their own forensic reports supporting his position.

Allegations of Forged Forensic Reports Emerge

The situation took a significant turn when a Haryana-based forensic and cyber investigation expert filed a complaint with the Gurugram Police. According to the complaint, individuals claiming to represent senior Punjab government and police officials approached the expert. They allegedly pressured him to arrange forensic reports with a predetermined outcome favourable to the Chief Minister and left Rs 10 lakh in cash in his vehicle. The expert claimed he faced threats to his family’s safety and later admitted to fabricating reports under duress from two laboratories whose accreditation he could not verify.

In response to the complaint, the Gurugram Police Crime Branch registered an FIR and arrested two individuals identified as Ankit and Arun Mahendra. Ankit reportedly worked as a contractual cyber expert with the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Authorities are examining financial transactions, electronic devices, CCTV footage, and communication records to identify any broader network involved. Police officials have noted that the laboratories referenced in the reports did not appear to be government-recognised entities.

ACP Naveen Sharma stated that the investigation is active and will include further forensic verification of the evidence.
