A fresh political controversy has emerged in Punjab following two low-intensity blasts near security installations, triggering strong reactions from opposition parties. The Blast Incidents

The twin explosions took place on the night of May 6, 2026. The first low-intensity blast occurred around 8 PM outside the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar. A second similar explosion was reported around 11 PM near the Army cantonment area in Khasa village, Amritsar. Fortunately, no major casualties or damage were reported in either incident. Security forces, forensic experts, bomb disposal squads, and dog teams were promptly deployed at both sites for investigation. These events followed an earlier attempted blast on a railway track in Rajpura, Patiala district, on April 27.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Statement

Speaking during his Shukrana Yatra in Jalandhar and later in Anandpur Sahib, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann described the blasts as “minor” and suggested they were politically motivated. He claimed that such incidents were part of a pattern ahead of elections in the state. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, meanwhile, indicated that the blasts could be linked to external elements, possibly a proxy war by Pakistan’s ISI, timed with a specific anniversary. This assessment has been highlighted by several political leaders in their responses.

The BJP has firmly rejected the Chief Minister’s allegations, calling them baseless and inflammatory. On Thursday, a delegation led by Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar submitted a formal complaint at the office of the Director General of Police in Chandigarh, demanding the registration of an FIR against Bhagwant Mann.
