On the morning of April 28, the Prime Minister started the day on a spirited note by playing football with local youngsters in Gangtok. He particularly spotlighted the Sevoke-Rangpo Railway Project, which will integrate Sikkim with the national railway network, describing it as a transformative step for the region.

In a significant boost to Sikkim’s future, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated, dedicated, and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore. These initiatives span critical sectors including healthcare, education, connectivity, tourism, urban development, power, agriculture, and environment, aiming to foster holistic and inclusive progress.
Key highlights include the foundation stone for a 100-bedded Ayurveda Hospital at Yangang and the inauguration of a 30-bedded Integrated Sowa Rigpa Hospital, strengthening traditional healthcare systems. In education, projects encompass the permanent campus of Sikkim University, upgrades to multiple institutions, and IT-enabled facilities in schools. Connectivity initiatives feature new bridges, road improvements, and steady advancement on the railway link. Tourism and urban projects include redevelopment of key precincts in Gangtok and eco-tourism facilities.
These efforts align with Sikkim’s long-standing commitment to sustainable practices. As India’s first fully organic state since 2016, Sikkim has protected its fragile ecology while enhancing livelihoods and positioning itself as a global destination for eco-tourism and wellness. The Prime Minister encouraged the spirit of “vocal for local” and expressed optimism about the state’s growing role in India’s development journey.
