India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement: No Cross-Border Firing Reported Overnight in Kashmir

For the first time in almost a week, the Kashmir Valley experienced a night of calm, devoid of gunfire or drone activity, following a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan on Saturday evening.

“There was no ceasefire violation reported from any sector along the Line of Control in Kashmir after 11 pm on Saturday,” officials informed the news agency PTI.

India and Pakistan reached an agreement to halt firing along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border, effective from Saturday evening. This decision came after the Indian Armed Forces carried out strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) last week, in retaliation for the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 fatalities.

Although the night remained calm, multiple drones were observed flying over the Kashmir valley on Saturday evening, breaching the ceasefire agreement.

Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Within Hours

India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement on Saturday. However, India reported that Pakistan violated the agreement just hours afterward.

On Saturday evening, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that "there had been repeated violations of the understanding between the two countries."

Despite the ceasefire, residents in Srinagar and Jammu heard multiple explosions shortly after the agreement. Power outages followed in both cities, although no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

“We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,” Misri stated during a press conference in New Delhi that Indian forces were responding to what he described as a "border intrusion."

Soon after the explosions, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to social media to voice his concern, stating: “What just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard all over Srinagar!!!”
