More than a year after Operation Sindoor, the military confrontation between India and Pakistan continues to generate competing claims. A new documentary has now brought renewed attention to Pakistan’s portrayal of the conflict, particularly claims that it emerged victorious under Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The documentary revisits the events of May 2025 and questions whether Pakistan’s post-conflict narrative reflects the broader military picture. While Islamabad has repeatedly highlighted its claims about Indian aircraft, the larger course of Operation Sindoor tells a more complex story.

India’s Decisive Response to Pahalgam
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. India responded by conducting precision strikes on nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The Ministry of Defence said the targets were selected through intelligence inputs and included facilities associated with terrorist organisations. India stressed that the initial operation was focused on terrorist infrastructure and was not aimed at the Pakistani population or its military.
The operation marked a clear message that terrorism against India would invite a direct and calibrated military response.
Pakistan’s Claims and the Larger Picture
Following the Indian strikes, Pakistan attempted to retaliate with drones and missiles against Indian targets. India said its air-defence and counter-drone systems successfully neutralised numerous threats before Indian forces responded against Pakistani military infrastructure.
Pakistan subsequently promoted claims of having inflicted significant losses on the Indian Air Force. India has acknowledged that it suffered losses during the confrontation, but that does not establish Pakistan’s broader claim of an overall military victory.
The documentary challenges precisely this simplified narrative by examining the complete sequence of strikes, counter-strikes and India's continued military operations.
The Battle for the Narrative
Operation Sindoor was fought not only with missiles and aircraft but also through competing information campaigns. Statements from both sides attempted to shape how the conflict was understood domestically and internationally.
The documentary adds to the growing scrutiny of Pakistan’s post-conflict claims by focusing on events beyond individual aircraft losses. India successfully struck terrorist infrastructure, responded to Pakistan’s subsequent escalation and demonstrated its ability to conduct precision operations while maintaining layered air defence.
A Strategic Shift for India
The significance of Operation Sindoor goes beyond the immediate military confrontation. It demonstrated India's willingness to directly target terrorist infrastructure following a major terror attack and showcased the growing role of precision weapons, drones, intelligence and integrated air-defence systems in India's military strategy.
The operation also reinforced a broader counter-terrorism message: attacks against India would no longer necessarily be met only through diplomatic channels.
The MGMM Outlook
The new documentary on Operation Sindoor brings renewed attention to Pakistan’s claim of victory following the May 2025 India-Pakistan military confrontation. While Pakistan has focused heavily on claims of Indian aircraft losses, the wider sequence of events presents a more complex picture. India launched Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam terror attack, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and subsequently responded to Pakistani missile and drone attacks.
What stands out is that Operation Sindoor was about more than individual battlefield losses. India demonstrated its ability to conduct precision strikes, protect its territory through layered air-defence systems and respond directly to terror infrastructure and subsequent military escalation. The documentary therefore adds to the debate over whether Pakistan’s victory narrative reflects the complete course of the conflict. For India, the operation also reinforced a broader strategic message: terrorism directed at the country can trigger a direct and calibrated military response, making Operation Sindoor significant beyond the immediate confrontation.
