PM Modi Embarks on Strategic Three-Nation Tour After Operation Sindoor

Prime Minister Modi has set out on a significant diplomatic tour, beginning with Cyprus, proceeding to Canada for the G7 Summit, and concluding in Croatia. This tour marks his first international engagement following Operation Sindoor — India's decisive strike against terrorist camps across the border — and underscores a new era in India's diplomatic and strategic relationships.

Cyprus: Reinforcing Bilateral Ties and Security Cooperation

Prime Minister Modi’s first stop is Cyprus, where he is scheduled to hold extensive talks with President Nikos Christodoulides. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus in over two decades. The two leaders aim to foster greater cooperation in the fields of education, technology, defense, and energy. Cyprus’ strong diplomatic support for India's quest for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council adds a significant dimension to their growing ties.

This visit also resonates against the backdrop of growing terrorist activity in South Asia, and Modi is expected to appreciate Cyprus’ understanding and solidarity with India's strong measures against terrorism following Operation Sindoor.

Canada: G7 Summit and Resetting Ties

Prime Minister Modi will then travel to Kananaskis in Canada to attend the G7 Summit at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This marks Modi’s sixth consecutive G7 participation and his first visit to Canada in over a decade — a momentous opportunity to reset their diplomatic ties following tensions stemming from the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023.

Discussions at the G7 Summit will range from climate initiatives and energy security to advancing innovations in artificial intelligence and strengthening the semiconductor and critical mineral supply chains. Modi is also expected to hold high-profile meetings with world leaders, reflecting India's growing role as a responsible and forward-thinking actor in the international community.

Some reports suggest a potential meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump, adding a dramatic twist to Modi’s diplomatic calendar.

Croatia: A First-Ever Visit to Forge Collaborative Partnerships

The tour’s final leg brings Modi to Croatia — his first visit to the country. During his meetings with President Zoran Milanović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Modi is expected to pursue greater collaboration within the European Union framework. The two nations will also explore opportunities to strengthen their cultural ties, education exchanges, and technology transfer, adding depth to their growing diplomatic engagement.

Conclusion: Shaping India's Global Presence After Operation Sindoor

Prime Minister Modi’s tour comes at a crucial moment for India's growing role on the world stage. The diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor signals India's resolve to protect its interests while strengthening relationships with key international stakeholders.

This tour reflects India's growing diplomatic maturity and its ability to manage complex relationships while projecting power, stability, and fairness. The ongoing transformation under Modi's leadership illustrates how India's future will be forged not just by its growing economic prowess but also by its diplomatic agility and strong strategic choices.
