PM Modi Commends Citizens’ Collective Responsibility Amid Global Challenges in 'Mann Ki Baat'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the 135th episode of his popular monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, broadcast on June 28, 2026, to express profound appreciation for the people of India. He highlighted their mature and responsible response to a recent global crisis stemming from instability in West Asia. Through thoughtful actions aligned with national needs, citizens demonstrated unity and resilience at a time when the country faced economic pressures from rising global energy costs.

Citizens’ Responsible Response to National Appeal

During the programme, the Prime Minister recalled his earlier appeal made in May 2026, when the West Asia situation intensified and affected global oil prices. He had encouraged citizens to exercise restraint in gold purchases, postpone non-essential foreign travel, and adopt fuel-saving measures such as carpooling and greater reliance on public transport.

PM Modi noted with gratitude that people across the country responded positively. Many families chose to recycle existing jewellery for important occasions like weddings instead of buying new gold. Others deferred overseas holidays and embraced practical changes in daily commuting. He shared that citizens reported increased carpooling on shared routes and a noticeable shift towards metros and buses, which helped reduce the overall burden on national resources.

“The people of India handled this global crisis with great responsibility,” the Prime Minister said. He expressed happiness that Indians were facing the challenges together, underscoring how small, collective actions contribute meaningfully to the nation’s well-being during difficult periods.

Advancing Self-Reliance in Aerospace Sector

In the same address, PM Modi drew attention to a significant milestone in India’s journey towards technological self-reliance. He praised the progress on the Made-in-India C295 military transport aircraft project, describing it as a powerful example of the country’s growing capabilities in the aerospace domain.

The Prime Minister highlighted how the project has empowered micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by creating opportunities throughout the manufacturing ecosystem. This initiative strengthens the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by building a robust domestic supply chain and fostering innovation in high-technology sectors. The first aircraft assembled in India has already completed its maiden test flight from the facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, marking a proud moment for the nation’s defence manufacturing ambitions.

Significance of Public Participation

The Mann Ki Baat programme continues to serve as an important platform for direct communication between the leadership and citizens. Broadcast live on All India Radio and Doordarshan, and widely available on digital channels, the 135th episode reinforced the value of collaborative efforts in overcoming challenges. It celebrated both the spirit of public cooperation during crises and steady advancements in strategic sectors.

The MGMM Outlook

The latest Mann Ki Baat reflects how collective responsibility can become a powerful force during periods of global uncertainty. The willingness of citizens to adopt simple yet meaningful measures—such as reducing unnecessary expenditure, conserving fuel, and supporting national priorities—demonstrates a strong sense of civic consciousness. Such public participation not only helps ease immediate economic pressures but also reinforces the idea that national resilience is built through the everyday actions of millions of responsible individuals.

The emphasis on the Made-in-India C295 aircraft project further highlights India's steady progress towards self-reliance in strategic sectors. Strengthening indigenous manufacturing, encouraging MSMEs, and developing advanced technological capabilities contribute to long-term economic and national security goals. Together, these developments showcase a vision where responsible citizenship and homegrown innovation work hand in hand to build a stronger, more resilient, and self-sufficient India.
