Pakistan Drone Activity Along the LoC Puts Rajouri on High Alert

The Indian Army has intensified surveillance along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir after multiple suspected Pakistani drones were detected in the Rajouri and Poonch sectors. The sightings, reported during the night in forward border areas, triggered an immediate military response as troops engaged the unmanned aerial vehicles and launched large-scale search operations to prevent any possible infiltration or security breach.
The incident comes amid continued efforts by Indian security forces to strengthen border vigilance against emerging aerial threats, with counter-drone surveillance now playing a critical role in safeguarding sensitive sectors of the LoC.
Multiple Drone Sightings Trigger Swift Military Action
According to security officials, three suspected drones were detected near the Rumlidhara area of the Nowshera sector in Rajouri. Alert Indian Army personnel immediately opened fire after identifying the aerial movement, compelling the drones to retreat towards the Pakistani side before they could enter deeper into Indian territory.
Soon after the engagement, intelligence inputs suggested possible suspicious movement in nearby areas, prompting a coordinated search operation involving Army units and local security agencies. Troops conducted intensive combing operations across villages, forested stretches, and forward positions to ensure that no infiltrators or aerial payloads had reached Indian territory.
Poonch Sector Also Witnesses Drone Activity
While Rajouri remained the primary focus, another suspected drone was reported over Behrooti village in the Balakote area of Poonch's Mendhar sector. Surveillance teams tracked the UAV as it moved close to the LoC before it reportedly turned back across the border.
Security forces began fresh sanitisation operations at daybreak, carefully examining the area for any signs of dropped weapons, explosives, communication equipment, or narcotics. Although no recovery has been officially confirmed, the search continues as a precautionary measure.
The Growing Challenge of Cross-Border Drones
Drone intrusions have become an increasingly significant security concern along India's western frontier. Unlike conventional infiltration attempts, unmanned aerial vehicles can carry out reconnaissance, monitor troop deployments, deliver arms or explosives, and provide logistical support to terrorist networks without requiring militants to physically cross the border.
The mountainous terrain and dense forests of the Rajouri–Poonch belt make these sectors particularly vulnerable to covert aerial activity. As a result, the Indian Army has steadily expanded its counter-drone capabilities through radar-based detection systems, thermal imaging, electronic surveillance, and rapid-response patrol units positioned across forward locations.

Following the latest sightings, security agencies have placed several forward sectors on heightened alert. Additional patrols have been deployed, observation posts remain fully operational, and intelligence agencies are closely monitoring cross-border activity for any unusual movement.
Officials have emphasised that the ongoing search operations are preventive in nature and will continue until every affected area is thoroughly sanitised. The objective remains to ensure the safety of border communities while maintaining the integrity of India's defensive positions along the LoC.
