Modiji’s Durgapur Offensive: A Political and Developmental Crossfire Against TMC

In a politically charged rally in Durgapur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a thunderous critique of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, accusing it of institutionalized corruption, voter appeasement through infiltration, and suppressing investment through extortion rackets. Simultaneously, he launched a series of infrastructure projects worth ₹5,400 crore, projecting the BJP as the true harbinger of development and cultural pride in Bengal.

The War of Narratives: Modi vs Mamata

Standing before a sea of supporters, Prime Minister Modi took direct aim at Mamata Banerjee and her party, alleging that TMC has pushed Bengal into an abyss of “lies, lawlessness, and loot.” He said the state has lost its once-revered identity and industrial prowess, now overshadowed by political violence, communal unrest, and administrative breakdown. According to Modi, the ruling party is no longer a protector of Bengal’s rich legacy, but rather a regime surviving on “goonda tax” and a culture of fear.

Modiji accused the TMC of enabling mass infiltration by providing illegal migrants with documents in exchange for votes. He warned that this was not merely a law-and-order issue but a cultural crisis that threatens the very identity of West Bengal. The Prime Minister reiterated that the BJP stands firm in protecting India’s borders and cultural unity, accusing TMC of endangering both.

A Callout on Women’s Safety and Justice

One of the most emotionally charged moments of Modiji’s speech came when he invoked the tragic case of a female doctor assaulted and murdered at RG Kar Medical College. He alleged that the TMC government shielded the culprits and suppressed public outrage in the name of political protection. “This is not just injustice,” he declared, “it is cruelty disguised as governance.”

Modiji also referred to the violence that broke out in Murshidabad during Ram Navami, condemning the state’s police force for acting unilaterally and targeting one section of society. He claimed that such selective law enforcement under Mamata’s leadership had shattered the people’s faith in the justice system and questioned the silence of human rights organizations over such incidents in Bengal.

The Language of Culture and Respect for Bengali Identity

Breaking from accusations, Modiji sought to align the BJP with Bengal’s cultural pride. He criticized the TMC, Congress, and Left parties for historically neglecting the Bengali language. In contrast, the BJP government, he said, worked to give Bengali the status of a classical language and has consistently honored the language and ethos of Bengal. He framed the upcoming election as not just political, but a cultural referendum where Bengali pride must not be compromised for vote-bank politics.

A Surge of Development Amidst Political Accusations

While targeting the state’s failures, Modiji also showcased the central government’s commitment to Bengal’s industrial and infrastructural growth. He inaugurated multiple projects totaling over ₹5,400 crore, designed to revitalize the region’s gas distribution, transportation, and energy ecosystems.

Among the key announcements was the commissioning of a ₹1,950-crore city gas distribution project in Bankura and Purulia by BPCL, aimed at expanding clean energy access. The Prime Minister also flagged off a ₹1,190-crore segment of the Urja Ganga gas pipeline from Durgapur to Kolkata, a vital link in the national energy grid. Additionally, desulphurisation units at Durgapur Steel and Raghunathpur thermal power plants were installed to reduce pollution, marking a new era of green industrialization in Bengal.

Modiji emphasized that these projects are more than mere infrastructure—they are symbols of the Centre’s belief in Bengal’s potential. He declared that while the TMC chases power through chaos, the BJP offers a roadmap of progress, stability, and empowerment.

BJP’s Promise: A New Dawn for Bengal

The Prime Minister called on the youth of Bengal to reclaim their future from what he termed the “scam-ridden, syndicate-controlled” environment created by the TMC. He cited the massive school recruitment scam that left over 26,000 teaching aspirants unemployed, saying that this reflected not just corruption but a betrayal of Bengal’s future.

Modiji urged the people to break free from the politics of appeasement and return to a politics of purpose. He framed the BJP as a party rooted in honesty, discipline, and development—contrasting sharply with what he called the TMC’s “destructive populism.” Bengal, he said, must rise again, not just as a cultural powerhouse but as an industrial and economic hub.

Conclusion: A State at the Crossroads

Prime Minister Modi’s Durgapur rally laid bare the stark dichotomy between his vision for a modern, developed Bengal and what he alleged to be the regressive, divisive rule of Mamata Banerjee’s TMC. The event was not just an election campaign—it was a declaration of ideological warfare. With Assembly elections on the horizon, Modiji positioned the BJP as a force of restoration and resurgence, promising a Bengal that is prosperous, secure, and proud of its identity.

As the state braces for a fierce political contest, the rally made it clear: the BJP is ready to battle not just for votes, but for the soul of Bengal.
