In his latest address on the 'Mann Ki Baat' radio broadcast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s significant achievements in space exploration. He emphasized that the country is now recognized globally as a leading space power, heading the most cost-effective and successful space programme in the world. He credited India’s rapidly growing space startup ecosystem, which has expanded from just one company a decade ago to over 325 today, fostering innovation and pushing the boundaries of space exploration.

Tribute to Dr. K. Kasturirangan

During his speech, Modi also paid heartfelt tributes to Dr. K. Kasturirangan, the former ISRO chief who passed away recently. Modi recalled his discussions with Dr. Kasturirangan on topics such as the potential of Indian youth, modern education, and the future of space science. He praised Kasturirangan’s leadership in shaping ISRO’s global reputation and his contributions to the National Education Policy, which aims to modernize India's education system for the 21st century.


Reflecting on 50 Years of India's Space Journey

Marking the 50th anniversary of the Aryabhata satellite's launch, Modi reflected on the humble beginnings of India's space programme. He mentioned that India’s early space missions were marked by hard work, dedication, and a passionate desire to contribute to the nation, despite limited resources. He pointed out how, in the early days, scientists transported critical equipment on bullock carts, a testament to their dedication and vision.


India's Space Achievements: A Global Power

India’s space achievements have continued to garner international attention. Modi highlighted key milestones such as the record-breaking launch of 104 satellites in a single mission, the successful landing on the Moon’s South Pole, and the ambitious Mars Orbiter Mission. He also noted India's progress with the Aditya-L1 mission, which is advancing our understanding of the Sun. These milestones demonstrate India’s dominance in the space sector, particularly in terms of cost-effectiveness and global collaboration.


Looking to the Future: New Horizons in Space Exploration

Looking ahead, Modi emphasized the bright future of India's space programme. He pointed to ongoing missions such as Gaganyaan, SpaDeX, Chandrayaan-4, and future missions to Venus and Mars. The opening up of India’s space sector to private players has also opened up new opportunities, with young innovators leading the charge. Modi expressed confidence that these advancements will inspire the next generation and instill national pride.


Paying Tribute to the Freedom Struggle

Shifting the focus to India’s history, Modi reminded listeners of significant events from the nation’s freedom struggle that occurred in April. He recalled the 'Champaran Satyagraha' led by Mahatma Gandhi, which shook the British colonial rule. Modi also honored the contributions of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President, and the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters.

Concluding his address, Modi underscored the strength of India's 140 crore citizens, whose collective power is driving the country forward. He celebrated the success of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, which has seen over 140 crore trees planted in honor of mothers, a project that has resonated globally. With these initiatives and the continued innovation in space science, India is poised to achieve even greater heights, fulfilling its potential as a global leader in both space exploration and nation-building.
