The Prime Minister warmly reminisced about his February visit to Washington D.C. and the productive discussions he had with President Trump, which set the foundation for stronger India-U.S. collaboration by combining the strengths of Make America Great Again (MAGA) and Viksit Bharat 2047, as per a government statement.

Both the Prime Minister and Vice President Vance reviewed the progress in various areas of bilateral cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the positive developments, the statement added.

“They welcomed the significant progress in the negotiations for a mutually beneficial India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement focused on the welfare of the people of the two countries. Likewise, they noted continued efforts towards enhancing cooperation in energy, defence, strategic technologies and other areas,” it said.

The meeting takes place as both countries are in talks to finalize the India-US bilateral trade deal, while President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs remain on hold until July. A team from India is expected to visit Washington DC later this month to continue discussions with US officials regarding the trade deal.

Vance, along with his family and team, arrived in New Delhi on Monday morning for a four-day visit to India.

Look forward to Trump’s India visit: Modi

The government statement highlighted that the two leaders discussed various regional and global matters of shared interest and emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy moving forward.

Vance's visit to India comes at a time when there have been reports of illegal Indian immigrants being deported in shackles and the revocation of student visas.

The Indian delegation at the meeting, led by Prime Minister Modi, included External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.

The Prime Minister also extended his best wishes to the Vice President, Second Lady, and their children, hoping for a pleasant and productive stay in India, according to the statement.

“Prime Minister conveyed his warm greetings to President Trump and said that he looked forward to his visit to India later this year,” it read.

PM Modi hosted a dinner for Vance’s family and the accompanying US officials following their formal meeting.

Later that evening, Vance will head to Jaipur for his engagements on April 22, and they are set to visit Agra on April 23. Vance’s visit to India will wrap up on Thursday, April 24, with his departure from the country at 6:40 a.m.
