HAL to Deliver Tejas Mk1A by Year-End, Strengthening India’s Indigenous Air Power
India’s indigenous defence aviation programme is set to enter a new phase as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) prepares to begin deliveries of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A to the Indian Air Force (IAF) by the end of 2026. The announcement, made by HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K, signals an important step in enhancing India’s air combat capabilities through domestically designed and manufactured fighter aircraft.
The Tejas Mk1A is the most advanced production variant of India’s light combat aircraft and has been developed to meet the evolving operational requirements of the Indian Air Force. Its induction is expected to strengthen squadron strength while showcasing the growing maturity of India’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.

Deliveries Expected After Final Testing
HAL has confirmed that 27 Tejas Mk1A aircraft have already been manufactured from the Air Force’s order of 180 fighters. Before the first aircraft are handed over, the company is completing the final stages of system integration, radar validation, and weapons certification to ensure the platform fully meets operational standards.
According to Ravi K, only a limited number of technical validations remain, and HAL is confident that deliveries will begin before the close of the year. The careful testing process reflects the importance of ensuring reliability and combat readiness before induction into frontline service.
