UIDAI Rolls Out Free Email Updates on Aadhaar App, Enhancing Digital Convenience

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a user-friendly feature in its official Aadhaar mobile application, allowing residents to add or update their email ID without visiting an enrolment centre. This service is being offered free of cost for a period of six months, from July 1 to December 31, 2026, marking a significant step towards simplifying Aadhaar-related services.

The initiative has received an enthusiastic response, with more than 2.5 lakh people updating their email addresses in just the first two days of its launch. By eliminating the need for physical visits and waiving the usual ₹75 fee exclusively for app-based updates, UIDAI aims to encourage wider participation in keeping Aadhaar records accurate and up to date.

Linking an email address to one’s Aadhaar profile serves as more than a simple administrative update. The update is typically processed within 30 days, with confirmation sent via SMS to the registered mobile number. Status can also be tracked on the UIDAI website or by calling the toll-free helpline 1947.

The email update feature builds upon the capabilities of the revamped Aadhaar App, which replaced the earlier mAadhaar platform.
