PM Modi to Inaugurate SEMICON India 2026: India Accelerates Its Semiconductor Ambitions
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi on September 17. The three-day event, scheduled from September 17 to 19, will bring together semiconductor companies, technology leaders, investors, policymakers, researchers, startups and students from India and across the world.
Held under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem,” the event will showcase India's growing capabilities in the semiconductor sector and its efforts to establish a stronger and more integrated electronics manufacturing ecosystem. SEMICON India 2026 is being organised by the India Semiconductor Mission, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and SEMI.

Showcasing the Complete Semiconductor Value Chain
SEMICON India 2026 is expected to feature extensive participation from Indian and international companies working across different stages of the semiconductor industry. The exhibition will cover areas including chip design, fabrication, assembly and testing, advanced packaging, semiconductor equipment, materials and electronic systems.
One of the major attractions will be the “Sand to Silicon to Systems” Value Chain Experience, which will demonstrate the journey of a semiconductor from raw materials and wafer production to finished chips and their integration into electronic systems. The initiative will provide visitors with a broader understanding of the technologies and processes involved in building modern semiconductor products.
The event will also feature dedicated platforms for startups, innovation, students and workforce development, creating opportunities for emerging companies and young talent to connect with established players in the industry.
India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem Gains Momentum
The event comes at a significant stage in India's semiconductor journey. Under the Semicon India programme, 12 semiconductor projects have been approved, with three projects having commenced commercial production, according to SEMI.
The projects cover various areas of the semiconductor ecosystem, including fabrication, assembly, testing and packaging. Their development is expected to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities and support the wider electronics industry.
Semiconductors are fundamental to a wide range of modern technologies, including smartphones, automobiles, telecommunications equipment, computers, artificial intelligence systems, industrial machinery and medical devices. India already has significant capabilities in semiconductor design and engineering services, while its electronics manufacturing sector continues to expand.
