The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced the selection of 750 pilgrims for the much-awaited Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025, scheduled to take place from June 30 to August 25. This marks the resumption of the revered pilgrimage after a gap caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions.

Selection and Eligibility
A total of 5,561 applicants — including 4,024 men and 1,537 women — registered online to participate in this year’s yatra. The selection process was conducted through a computerized, gender-balanced draw of lots to ensure fairness and transparency. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh supervised the draw.
Only Indian citizens with valid passports traveling exclusively for religious purposes were eligible to apply.
Routes and Duration
Pilgrims will have two travel routes available:
Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand route): This 23-day journey features a motorable road, reducing the need for strenuous trekking.
Nathu La Pass (Sikkim route): This longer route spans 25 days and also offers a motorable path with minimal trekking required.
Both routes have been carefully planned to facilitate ease of travel while ensuring the spiritual essence of the pilgrimage is preserved.
Pre-Yatra Procedures
Selected pilgrims must undergo a mandatory three-day health screening and document verification in Delhi before departure. These measures are in place to guarantee the safety and preparedness of all participants for the challenging high-altitude journey ahead.
Cost and Facilities
The approximate cost of the yatra is estimated at ₹1.5 lakh per pilgrim. This fee covers transportation, accommodation, meals, guides, and emergency medical support throughout the pilgrimage.
Spiritual Importance
Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar hold immense spiritual significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of the Bon religion. Mount Kailash is considered the abode of Lord Shiva in Hinduism, while Lake Mansarovar is believed to have purifying powers. The yatra offers devotees a unique opportunity for spiritual renewal and connection to their faith.
