India Semiconductor Mission Launches Dedicated Investors Support Portal to Strengthen Semiconductor Ecosystem

The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) has introduced a new ‘Investors Support’ portal aimed at facilitating smoother engagement for both domestic and international investors in the country’s semiconductor sector. This initiative reflects the government’s continued focus on building a robust and investor-friendly environment for advanced electronics manufacturing.

The portal, available at https://www.ism.gov.in/investment, functions as a comprehensive single-window digital platform. It provides detailed information on government schemes, policies, approved projects, regulatory requirements, and procedural guidelines. Investors can also use it to submit concerns or grievances, which will be addressed efficiently through coordinated efforts involving ISM officials, nodal officers from various ministries, state governments, project companies, and industry associations.

Enhancing Investor Confidence and Ease of Doing Business

The launch of the Investors Support portal marks an important step in improving transparency and responsiveness within the semiconductor ecosystem. By offering a secure, role-based interface, the platform ensures streamlined coordination and time-bound resolution of investor issues. This structure is expected to reduce uncertainties and build greater confidence among global players considering long-term commitments in India.

During the launch event, Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission, highlighted the importance of proactive handholding and stakeholder collaboration. He emphasised that effective facilitation of investors would play a key role in strengthening India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.

Progress Under the Semicon India Programme

The Semicon India Programme, launched in 2021 with an outlay of ₹76,000 crore, has been instrumental in developing a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem covering design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and packaging. The programme has now advanced into ISM 2.0, with expanded emphasis on equipment, materials, supply chain resilience, research and development, and skilled workforce development.

As of May 2026, the government has approved multiple semiconductor projects with cumulative investments exceeding ₹1.6 lakh crore. These projects are spread across several states, including Gujarat, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and others. Notable developments include facilities by companies such as Micron Technology, Tata Electronics, CG Power, and various players in compound semiconductors and advanced packaging. Several units have already commenced commercial or pilot production, while others are progressing steadily toward operational status.

This momentum is supported by attractive fiscal incentives, including up to 50% capital support for eligible projects, alongside complementary schemes for electronics component manufacturing and design.

Strategic Significance in the Global Context

India’s semiconductor initiatives come at a time when global supply chains are seeking greater diversification and resilience. The country’s large domestic market, growing talent pool, and policy support position it as an emerging destination for semiconductor manufacturing and design. The sector is expected to benefit multiple industries, including automotive, telecommunications, consumer electronics, defence, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.

The upcoming SEMICON India 2026 event, scheduled for September 17–19 in New Delhi, is anticipated to further highlight these opportunities and foster international collaborations.

The MGMM Outlook

The launch of the Investors Support portal by the India Semiconductor Mission marks a timely and strategic move in India’s broader ambition to become a major global semiconductor hub. By creating a dedicated single-window platform for investors, the government is not only simplifying processes but also sending a strong message about its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and ease of doing business. This initiative strengthens investor confidence and demonstrates that India is focused on building a long-term, sustainable ecosystem rather than pursuing short-term industrial gains.

The continued expansion of the Semicon India Programme, backed by significant financial incentives and growing participation from companies such as Micron Technology, Tata Electronics, and CG Power, highlights India’s rising importance in the global semiconductor value chain. As global industries seek more resilient and diversified supply chains, India’s policy support, skilled workforce, and expanding infrastructure place it in a strong position to emerge as a trusted manufacturing and innovation destination in the semiconductor sector.
