Adani Defence & Aerospace has taken a significant step forward in strengthening India’s defence manufacturing capabilities by laying the foundation for South Asia’s largest private-sector missile ecosystem in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh. With a planned investment of ₹2,500 crore, the project aims to create a fully integrated facility that spans the complete missile manufacturing value chain — from raw materials to mission-ready systems. This development marks a historic milestone for the private sector in India’s strategic defence industry.
The foundation stone for the facility was laid on July 5, 2026, in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and senior government officials. Karan Adani and Jeet Adani from the Adani Group participated in the ceremony, underscoring the group’s commitment to the initiative. Located in Pali village along National Highway-27, the project is expected to be completed over the next three years.

Integrated Missile Manufacturing Hub
The Shivpuri complex will focus on the production of medium- to long-range missile systems while incorporating advanced facilities for composite propellants, TNT, and explosive-grade materials. This backward-integrated approach — bringing critical components and final assembly under one roof — represents the first initiative of its kind in India’s private defence sector. By localising the entire production process, the facility will enhance efficiency and support faster induction of advanced systems into service.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, highlighted the project’s transformative potential during the ceremony. He described the facility as a major leap that would replace foreign dependency with domestic capabilities, not just through assembly but through comprehensive indigenous manufacturing of propulsion and warhead materials. The complex is also expected to help accelerate the transition of successful DRDO-developed systems into large-scale production.
Economic Benefits and Employment Generation
The project is projected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs while engaging more than 50 MSMEs within a specialised defence supply chain. This development is anticipated to stimulate ancillary industries and contribute to the overall economic growth of the region. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav noted the initiative’s importance in positioning the state as a key player in national defence manufacturing.
The new facility will complement Adani’s existing defence operations in Gwalior, which already produce light machine guns, assault rifles, and carbines. The Gwalior unit has demonstrated strong performance, having delivered 2,000 units of the Prahar Light Machine Gun to the Armed Forces ahead of schedule. Together, the Gwalior and Shivpuri facilities are expected to serve as twin pillars of defence innovation in Madhya Pradesh.
Broader Investments and Strategic Alignment
This missile ecosystem project forms part of the Adani Group’s larger investment plans in Madhya Pradesh. At the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal last year, Group Chairman Gautam Adani announced commitments exceeding ₹1.10 lakh crore across multiple sectors, including hydro pumped storage, cement, mining, logistics, and thermal energy, with an aim to create significant employment opportunities in the state. The group has already invested over ₹4,000 crore in cement plants in Katni district and continues to expand its presence in power and renewable energy.
The initiative aligns seamlessly with national goals of self-reliance in defence production. By reducing dependence on imports and strengthening indigenous capabilities, the project will contribute to building a more robust and resilient defence manufacturing ecosystem in India.
The MGMM Outlook
A strong domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem is essential for ensuring that India can meet its strategic security requirements without excessive reliance on foreign suppliers. The establishment of an integrated missile production facility in Madhya Pradesh reflects the growing role of the private sector in strengthening indigenous capabilities, supporting advanced research, and accelerating the transition of homegrown defence technologies into large-scale production. Such initiatives also reinforce the broader vision of technological self-reliance while improving the resilience of the country's defence infrastructure.
Beyond its strategic importance, the project has the potential to generate significant economic benefits by creating skilled employment, encouraging MSME participation, and fostering the growth of a specialised defence supply chain. As industrial investments continue to expand across the state, Madhya Pradesh is steadily emerging as an important centre for defence manufacturing. The combination of industrial development, innovation, and indigenous production can contribute to long-term national security while supporting sustainable economic growth.
