Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on Friday, where he addressed a public gathering and launched a range of development projects aimed at enhancing both urban and rural infrastructure. During the visit, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple significant initiatives, collectively valued at ₹3,880 crore. Remarkably, this marked his 50th visit to Varanasi as an MP since 2014.

Varanasi Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma stated that the projects encompass several key infrastructure schemes designed to uplift the region. Out of the 44 initiatives, 25 projects—worth ₹2,250 crore—are focused on upgrading the city's power infrastructure. These include the construction of 15 new substations, the installation of advanced transformers, and the laying of 1,500 km of new power lines.
One of the standout developments is a 220 kV substation planned near Chaukaghat, which is expected to ensure a seamless 24-hour electricity supply to the city. The visit also brought promising news for air travelers, with proposed plans for airport expansion. These include constructing a tunnel to support future connectivity and infrastructure growth.
'Kashi belongs to me and I belong to Kashi'
As soon as he arrived in Varanasi on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed in detail by the Police Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner, and District Magistrate about the recent criminal rape case in the city. He directed them to take the strictest possible action against those responsible and to put in place effective measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. "I salute my family members of Kashi. I will always be thankful to the love and respect that I have received from you all. Kashi belongs to me and I belong to Kashi," The PM stated while speaking to the gathering.
Progress in Development in Varanasi
The Prime Minister stated that Varanasi's development has accelerated significantly over the past decade. He noted that Kashi has welcomed modern advancements, safeguarded its rich heritage, and made bold strides toward a brighter future. "Today, Kashi is not just ancient, but progressive as well," he added.
Reflecting on the challenges people in Purvanchal faced 10–11 years ago, particularly regarding access to medical treatment, he stated, "We all remember how difficult it was. But today, the situation has completely changed. My Kashi is now becoming the capital of wellness." He added, "Major hospitals from Delhi and Mumbai are now accessible near your homes. This is true development when essential facilities reach the people directly."

Security Tightened Ahead of PM's Visit
Due to the summer heat and heavy traffic, PM Modi's event was organized on the Ring Road, just outside the city limits, to provide easier access for the rural population. In a pre-briefing at the Cantt camp office, Police Commissioner Mohit Agrawal and ADG Security Raghuveer Lal shared that a large security team would be deployed for the Prime Minister’s safety, including six SPs, eight additional SPs, 33 COs, and approximately 4,000 personnel from the police, PAC, and paramilitary forces.
Rooftop deployments have been set up along the VIP route and surrounding areas, with enhanced surveillance using CCTV and drone cameras. Police personnel have been instructed to refrain from using mobile phones while on duty, and to be present in full uniform with their IDs and duty cards visible. Strict adherence to the PM's security protocol will be enforced, and crowd control will be managed using ropes.
