India Strengthens Air Defence with ₹1,950 Crore Indigenous Mountain Radar Deal

India has taken a decisive step in reinforcing its defence preparedness with the signing of a ₹1,950 crore contract between the Ministry of Defence and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The agreement focuses on the procurement of advanced mountain radar systems for the Indian Air Force, underscoring the country’s commitment to enhancing indigenous defence manufacturing.

This deal has been executed under the ‘Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)’ category, which represents the highest priority in India’s defence acquisition policy. The mountain radar systems have been developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, a key laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
