The action came three days after Pakistan dismantled similar security installations outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, making it one of the most visible diplomatic responses in recent months.
The removal was carried out by the concerned civic authorities in Delhi and was limited to structures situated outside the officially designated boundary of the Pakistani diplomatic mission. Officials have not announced any broader policy change, and the High Commission continues to operate normally.
Security Structures Removed Outside the Mission
The operation took place in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi’s diplomatic enclave, where authorities dismantled metal barricades, traffic bollards, queue liners, fencing, and roofing that had surrounded the visa section of the Pakistan High Commission.
Television visuals showed broken railings, twisted metal frames, concrete blocks, and roofing sheets scattered across the lane after the demolition. Despite the clearance of the external security perimeter, the visa counters and the main entrance of the High Commission remained undamaged and functional.
A Reciprocal Response to Islamabad
The development follows Pakistan’s decision earlier this week to remove security barricades and parking poles placed outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Reports indicate that the Indian mission had formally objected to Pakistan’s action before New Delhi carried out a similar exercise outside the Pakistani mission.
Reciprocity has long been a defining principle of India-Pakistan diplomatic relations. Administrative measures involving embassy staff, security arrangements, visa facilities, and diplomatic privileges have often been mirrored by both countries during periods of strained relations.
