Air India operated the inaugural flight under this model from Varanasi, proudly establishing the ancient city as India’s first spoke airport for international connectivity. Passengers on this landmark service completed check-in, baggage handling, and immigration formalities right at Varanasi before flying to Delhi for seamless onward journeys to international destinations.

Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu graced the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the initiative’s importance for Indian aviation. A message from Prime Minister Modi, read out by Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, underscored the transformative potential of the new system.
