High-Level Meeting in Delhi

Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Sibi George, held productive talks with Polish Secretary of State Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Under Secretary of State Michal Baranowski from the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. The wide-ranging conversation reflected the depth of the existing strategic partnership and reinforced both nations’ commitment to closer collaboration across multiple domains.

These discussions build on the momentum created during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland in 2024, when the two countries formally elevated their ties to a strategic partnership and adopted a comprehensive Action Plan for 2024-2028.

Defence and Security Cooperation

Defence and security emerged as prominent areas of focus during the meeting. Poland, which has substantially increased its defence investments with support from European Union funding, expressed keen interest in partnering with India on joint production and technology sharing. Officials highlighted successful ongoing initiatives, such as the production of Polish-designed drones in India, aligning well with India’s emphasis on domestic manufacturing.

Both sides are exploring further opportunities, including military equipment collaboration, space technology, and the formation of joint ventures between defence companies. Accelerated meetings of military working groups are expected to identify specific projects that can deliver mutual benefits. Poland views India not only as a market but as a long-term strategic partner in strengthening defence capabilities.

Economic Ties and Trade Prospects

Economic cooperation and trade received significant attention. Poland remains India’s largest trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe, with bilateral trade steadily growing. The two countries are working to leverage opportunities presented by the India-EU Free Trade Agreement to boost commerce and investment flows.

Discussions also covered emerging sectors such as new technologies, information technology, green energy, and mining. Preparatory meetings, including those involving Ambassador Neeta Bhushan, have laid the groundwork for the next session of the Poland-India Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s planned visit to India in October 2026 is anticipated to provide further impetus to these economic initiatives.

Broader Areas of Collaboration

Beyond defence and trade, the officials reaffirmed their shared resolve to strengthen ties in culture, science and technology, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. Both countries also expressed a firm commitment to combating global terrorism in all its forms. These multifaceted discussions demonstrate the comprehensive nature of the India-Poland relationship, which extends across political, economic, and strategic dimensions.

The MGMM Outlook

The steady expansion of India-Poland relations reflects India's growing engagement with Europe through partnerships built on mutual strategic interests rather than limited diplomatic exchanges. The emphasis on defence cooperation, technology transfer, joint manufacturing, and military collaboration aligns with India's long-term vision of strengthening indigenous capabilities while building trusted international partnerships. Poland's interest in producing defence systems with India and collaborating in advanced sectors such as space and emerging technologies further reinforces India's position as a reliable global partner.

The discussions also underline the increasing importance of economic and technological cooperation in shaping modern bilateral relations. With trade continuing to grow and both countries exploring opportunities in information technology, green energy, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, the partnership has the potential to create long-term value for both economies. As India deepens its engagement with key European nations, collaborations like these support the country's broader goals of economic resilience, innovation-driven growth, and a stronger presence in the evolving global strategic landscape.
