Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled a dedicated mobile app for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) in New Delhi on Monday. The app is designed to streamline the application process and offer real-time updates to candidates.

Announced in the Budget 2024-25, the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme aims to provide one crore internships in the top 500 companies over five years. A pilot project, launched in October 2024, set out to offer 1.25 lakh internships to young job seekers.
The PMIS app features a user-friendly interface, Aadhaar-based face authentication for seamless registration, and real-time alerts on new opportunities. During the launch, Sitharaman highlighted that this initiative aims to bridge the gap between classroom education and industry demands, enhancing youth employability. She also urged industry stakeholders to contribute to developing a skilled workforce. The deadline for Round II applications is March 31.
Internship Program Progress Update
Round I: Launched in October 2024, featuring 1.27 lakh internship opportunities across 745 districts, offered by 280 companies across 25 sectors. Over 82,000 candidates successfully secured internships.
